Position Overview:
Delton Kellogg Elementary is seeking a compassionate and dedicated 31N Student Support Counselor
to join our team. This position is funded through the 31N Mental Health and Support Services grant and
focuses on improving student wellness, resilience, and academic success through counseling,
intervention, and collaboration with families and staff.
Responsibilities
- Provide short-term individual and group counseling to support students’ emotional, social, and
behavioral needs.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and families to create positive, supportive learning
environments.
- Develop and implement prevention and intervention strategies that address student behavior,
mental health and well-being.
- Serve as a liaison between school, families, and community mental health resources.
- Collect and maintain data related to student support services and grant reporting requirements.
- Participate in school-wide initiatives promoting positive behavior, mental wellness, and
social-emotional learning.
Qualifications
- Education: Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or related field
required. Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in a related field may be considered if they are
actively pursuing or willing to pursue a Master’s degree and appropriate state licensure.
- Licensure: Valid Michigan certification or license (e.g., LLMSW, LMSW, LLPC, LPC, LLMFT,
or equivalent).
- Experience: Previous experience in school-based or youth mental health settings preferred.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
Schedule
- Full- time position during the school year.
The final candidate for this position will be required (at the applicant’s cost) to furnish Delton Kellogg Schools with a current
Michigan State Police and FBI criminal records check prior to our recommendation to hire.
