Yard Material Coordinator

Position Overview

Candidate must be dependable and a motivated individual with experience moving large heavy material. This position plays a critical role in keeping shop operations running efficiently by managing incoming and outgoing material, maintaining inventory accuracy, and supporting fabrication operations. More than a general labor position. The ideal candidate must be able to work independently, stay organized, prioritize tasks, and think ahead to keep material flow moving efficiently throughout the yard and shop. This is a year-round outdoor position in a fast-paced steel fabrication environment.

Essential Job Functions

• Coordinate daily with the Project Manager and Operations Manager regarding material needs, priorities, and scheduling
• Verify all incoming material matches shipping documents, including Material Test Reports (MTRs) and Mill Certifications when applicable
• Submit signed and verified shipping documents to the Quality Assurance Department
• Prepare Receiving Nonconformance Reports (NCRs) and submit them to Quality Assurance as needed
• Organize, maintain, and track all certified and non-certified inventory material
• Safely unload and inspect incoming materials including structural steel, bolts, paint, and other fabrication materials
• Label all steel with appropriate job numbers and shipper numbers, then organize material by job and size for efficient retrieval
• Locate, stage, and process material needed for daily fabrication operations
• Perform final visual inspections of material prior to shipping
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe yard environment
• Work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining productivity and accuracy

Qualifications & Skills

• Previous SkyTrak, telehandler, forklift, or heavy equipment experience
• Experience with construction or heavy material handling.
• Ability to read and understand shipping documents, job numbers, and material identification
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to think ahead, prioritize work, and adapt to changing shop demands
• Self-motivated and dependable with strong time management skills
• Comfortable working outdoors year-round in various weather conditions
• Ability to safely lift and move materials as required
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
