Position Summary Information
Responsibilities
The Environmental Controls, HVAC, and Life Safety Manager position consolidates critical functions of HVAC supervision, environmental controls, and compliance/life safety into a single leadership role. This position is responsible for overseeing the installation, maintenance, and repair of environmental control systems, managing campus-wide safety and compliance programs, and ensuring adherence to OSHA, EPA, fire codes, and state regulations.
This role includes supervising HVAC and safety personnel, ensuring preventative maintenance programs are implemented, conducting inspections, managing regulatory compliance, and responding to system failures, safety incidents, and emergencies. By combining these responsibilities, the university will improve coordination, accountability, and efficiency across facilities operations and compliance functions.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED (Associate’s degree preferred in a related field)
3–5 years of experience in facilities maintenance, life safety systems, or a related field
Working knowledge of fire alarm systems, HVAC systems, and building systems
Strong understanding of life safety codes and compliance requirements
Strong understanding of life safety codes and compliance requirements
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical diagrams
Strong organizational and documentation skills, computer navigation (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Effective communication and coordination across departments
Attention to detail and proactive problem-solving
Salary
Commensurate with experience, qualifications, and university’s resources.
Minimum Qualifications

Additional Information
This position is considered essential personnel and may be required to respond during emergencies, after hours, weekends, and holidays.
Must be able to work independently and make decisions that impact life safety and campus operations.
Requires strong coordination with multiple departments including Facilities Management, Housing, Campus Police, and external agencies.
Employee must maintain strict compliance with all safety regulations, codes, and university policies.
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects, inspections, and system issues simultaneously.
Must be capable of identifying potential risks and taking proactive steps to prevent failures or safety hazards.
May be required to assist with campus wide emergency planning, and incident response.
Position requires maintaining confidentiality and professionalism when dealing with sensitive safety issues.
