Lead Customs Specialist – Automotive Manufacturing
A global automotive manufacturer is seeking a Lead Customs Specialist to oversee import/export compliance and trade policy activities across its North American operations. This role works independently within the Purchasing team, ensuring adherence to customs regulations, optimizing trade strategies, and supporting production planning through accurate tariff classification and policy interpretation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage USMCA and other FTA assessments, certifications, and OEM submissions.
- Interpret trade policy changes and advise leadership on operational and cost impacts.
- Review product classifications (HTS) and ensure compliance with customs valuation and documentation standards.
- Collaborate with customs brokers, internal teams, and manufacturing sites to maintain consistency and accuracy in all customs procedures.
- Oversee customs bond renewals, audit entries, and lead continuous improvement in trade compliance systems.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, International Business, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 6–10 years of experience in customs or trade compliance, ideally within the automotive sector.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. Customs procedures, tariff evaluation rules, and FTA requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and proven ability to manage reporting, analysis, and cross-functional communication.
