Reports to the Director of Wellness

 

The Dentist is responsible for delivering high quality, patient-centered oral health services, Leland Medical Clinic. This role provides comprehensive diagnostic, preventive, and restorative dental care for a diverse patient population.  

 

This role requires a solid understanding of federal, state, and program specific regulations relevant to FQHC service delivery, including documentation, reporting, and quality standards. The Dentist is expected to maintain strong, collaborative working relationships with interdisciplinary care team members, community partners, program staff, and other stakeholders to support coordinated and integrated care. Strict confidentiality will be maintained at all times, and accurate data collection, documentation, and reporting will be completed in alignment with Leland Medical Clinic and FQHC regulatory requirements. 

The Dentist will communicate regularly with supervisors and team members to provide updates on patient care, program progress, operational needs, and assigned tasks. Serving a diverse patient population across the lifespan, the Dentist plays a key role in supporting Leland Medical Clinic’s mission to provide accessible, patient responsive care tailored to the unique needs of the community.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • DDS or DMD degree from an accredited dental school. 
  • Current state license as a Dentist. 
  • Current DEA registration (or ability to obtain). 
  • 2  years of experience in the field with experience in an FQHC preferred  

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Perform comprehensive oral evaluations, diagnostic imaging interpretation, treatment planning, and risk assessment. 
  • Provide restorative dentistry (fillings, crowns, bridges), periodontal therapy, extractions, prosthodontics, and emergency dental care within scope of practice. 
  • Deliver preventive services including patient education, sealants, fluoride varnish, and caries risk management strategies. 
  • Manage acute dental needs, infection, trauma, and urgent care cases. 
  • Develop individualized treatment plans emphasizing prevention, continuity of care, and evidence-based practice. 
  • Ensure safe administration of local anesthesia and perform procedures with strict adherence to infection control, OSHA, and CDC standards. 
  • Consult and collaborate with medical providers regarding oral–systemic connections, chronic disease management, and cooccurring conditions. 
  • Provide appropriate, trauma informed patient education on oral hygiene, nutrition, tobacco cessation, and disease prevention. 
  • Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients, caregivers, and families to promote shared decision making.                                                                  
  • Counsel patients on treatment options, financial assistance opportunities, and care navigation resources. 
  • Maintain thorough, accurate, and timely documentation in the Electronic Dental Record (EDR). 
  • Adhere to all state and federal regulations governing dental practice, including licensure requirements and clinical protocols. 
  • Uphold HIPAA and FQHC confidentiality standards. 
  • Participate in internal and external quality improvement (QI) activities, audits, and performance reporting. 
  • Contribute to UDS (Uniform Data System) oral health reporting and other population level quality initiatives.  
  • Work collaboratively with dental hygienists, dental assistants, primary care providers, behavioral health, care coordinators, and other interdisciplinary teams to support integrated care. 
  • Participate in daily huddles, case reviews, and care coordination meetings. 
  • Support community outreach initiatives such as school-based screenings, oral health education, mobile dental programs, and preventive care campaigns. 
  • Collaborate with local schools, early childhood programs, and community health initiatives to promote LMC services and to increase patient caseloads when asked. 
  • Other duties as assigned by management
