Senior Power Electronics Technician

Job Summary

The Senior Power Electronics Technician is responsible for assembling, testing, troubleshooting, repairing, and validating power electronic systems and prototypes. This role supports engineering, manufacturing, and product development teams by building and evaluating high- and low-voltage electrical assemblies, power conversion systems, and electromechanical equipment. The Senior Power Electronics Technician serves as a technical resource, mentors junior technicians, and helps ensure products meet quality, safety, and performance requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Assemble, wire, and integrate power electronic systems, prototype units, and production equipment from electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings.
• Test, troubleshoot, and repair AC/DC and DC/DC power supplies, inverters, converters, battery systems, motor drives, and control electronics.
• Perform electrical verification and functional testing using oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, power analyzers, electronic loads, function generators, and high-voltage test equipment.
• Diagnose component, circuit, and system failures and implement corrective actions.
• Support engineering teams during product development, prototype builds, and design validation testing.
• Perform soldering, PCB assembly, cable harness fabrication, and electromechanical assembly.
• Develop and document test procedures, work instructions, and assembly processes.
• Maintain accurate test records, calibration logs, engineering change documentation, and quality reports.
• Train and mentor technicians on assembly techniques, troubleshooting methods, and safe work practices.
• Ensure compliance with electrical safety standards, quality systems, and laboratory procedures.
• Support New Product Introduction (NPI) and manufacturing transfer activities.
• Assist with root cause analysis, continuous improvement initiatives, and process optimization.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Electronics Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related technical field; equivalent experience may be considered.
• 5 years of experience in power electronics, electrical testing, or electronics manufacturing.
• Strong understanding of analog and digital electronics, power conversion, and electrical control systems.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, PCB layouts, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
• Experience with cable harness assembly, soldering, PCB rework, and electromechanical assembly.
• Familiarity with AC and DC electrical systems, including high-voltage safety practices.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and documentation skills.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with battery systems, energy storage, electric vehicles, renewable energy, or industrial power systems.
• Knowledge of power semiconductors including MOSFETs, IGBTs, and SiC devices.
• Experience testing power supplies, motor controllers, inverters, converters, and battery management systems (BMS).
• Familiarity with IPC-A-610, IPC J-STD-001, IPC/WHMA-A-620, UL, CE, and IEC standards.
• Experience supporting environmental, thermal, vibration, and reliability testing.
• Understanding of manufacturing processes, Lean Manufacturing, and continuous improvement principles.

• Ability to work safely around energized electrical equipment while using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Occasional travel to customer sites, suppliers, or manufacturing facilities may be required.
