GENERAL SUMMARY

As an Actuarial & Data Science Intern, you will work on projects directly with our actuaries and Data Analytics professionals and will have the opportunity to assist, enhance and complete various analytical processes which provide data-based solutions to our business partners. Responsibilities vary depending on assigned projects and may include: Actuarial Valuation, Underwriting, Power Business Intelligence.

Internship Term: Summer 2026; 29.5 hours/week; On-site

This position will be with Stratacor, an affiliate of Delta Dental of Minnesota.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Converting an existing process from Excel to a more efficient program such as SQL.
  • Creating validation tools to ensure accuracy of reserving software.
  • Collaborate with management, business partners, analysts, and technical resources team to support audit/environmental health needs.
  • Join forces with analysts, DBAs and stakeholders to gather, understand, and develop technical requirements.
  • Other duties as required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Major or Minor in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Economics, Statistics or Data Analytics
  • Knowledge in SQL and relational database concepts
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Well-developed logical reasoning skills, problem solving skills and analytical skills
  • Highly collaborative
  • Good oral and written communication skills


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • Major or Minor in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Economics, Statistics or Data Analytics
  • Minimum of a junior status for 2026

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Travel Requirements: None
  • Weight Lifting Requirements: up to 20 lbs.
  • Sedentary Work: Prolonged periods of sitting at a workstation while working on a computer

RELATIONSHIPS

  • Reports To: Chief Actuary and Vice President of Data Analytics
  • Directly Manages: None
  • Internal Relationships: Actuarial and Data Analytics staff, users, management, senior staff
  • External Relationships: Vendors

BENEFITS AND COMPENSATION

Benefits for this position include earned sick and safe time. The salary for this position is $18.50 hourly. Salary offers will typically be made in the listed range. The Company takes into consideration a candidate’s education, training, and experience, as well as the position’s work location, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value, including merit process and internal pay alignment when determining the salary for potential new team members. In compliance with state and federal regulations, a potential new team member’s salary history will not be used in compensation decisions.
