Job Overview
Reputable General Contractor in Phoenix, AZ seeking an experienced Commercial Construction Estimator to join our team. This role is critical to our continued growth and works closely with Project Managers to manage the bid and preconstruction process for a diverse portfolio of commercial projects.
We are looking for a driven, organized professional with strong commercial construction experience and the ability to manage multiple bids and strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Compensation is competitive and based on experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the bid process from beginning to end, including solicitation, analysis, leveling, and comparison of subcontractor and supplier pricing
- Review architectural and engineering drawings, specifications, and addenda to determine full project scope
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for all construction disciplines, including sitework, structural, architectural, MEP, and finishes
- Prepare accurate cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, permits, insurance, and indirect costs
- Act as the primary point of contact for bid inquiries; actively field calls and reach out to subcontractors and suppliers to clarify scope, answer questions, and drive bid coverage
- Prepare comprehensive bid proposals, including detailed scope clarifications and exclusions
- Identify scope gaps, risks, and potential cost impacts
- Participate in pre-bid meetings and site walks as required
- Support value engineering efforts and propose cost-saving alternatives while maintaining project quality
- Collaborate with Project Managers, clients, architects, engineers, and vendors throughout the estimating process
- Manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously while tracking daily activities and meeting all deliverables
- Maintain organized estimating files and documentation
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of commercial construction experience (estimating experience preferred)
- High School Diploma required (Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field a plus)
- Strong knowledge of commercial construction means and methods, building codes, and industry standards
- Proficiency in estimating software such as Bluebeam, Procore, or similar platforms
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Outlook, Project, PowerPoint, and Office 365
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and technical documents
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; must be comfortable communicating scope and requirements to subcontractors by phone
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- Proven ability to manage time effectively and meet strict bid deadlines
