Dell Rapids High School is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Assistant Football Coach to join our coaching staff for the upcoming season. This position will support the Head Coach in developing a competitive football program that emphasizes student growth, teamwork, sportsmanship, and safety.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning and conducting effective practices.
• Teach football fundamentals, position-specific skills, and game strategies.
• Support player development through constructive feedback and positive leadership.
• Assist with film study, scouting, and game-plan preparation.
• Carry out assigned duties during varsity, JV, and freshman contests.
• Supervise student-athletes during practices, games, travel, and team events.
• Promote academic responsibility, character development, and team culture.
• Ensure all program activities follow SDHSAA and district policies.
• Communicate effectively with the Head Coach, athletes, families, and staff.
• Assist with equipment management, field setup, and administrative tasks as needed.

Qualifications

Required:

• Knowledge of football fundamentals and safe practice techniques.
• Strong communication and leadership skills.
• Ability to build positive relationships with high-school athletes.
• Ability to support the Head Coach’s vision and program philosophy.
• Must meet all SDHSAA coaching requirements.

Preferred:

• Previous coaching experience.
• Familiarity with high school athletics and SDHSAA guidelines.
• Teaching certificate.
