Job Posting: Assistant Cross Country Coach

Dell Rapids High School – Dell Rapids School District 

Dell Rapids High School is seeking a motivated and supportive Assistant Cross Country Coach to help guide our student-athletes during the fall cross country season. The ideal candidate will promote teamwork, endurance development, and a positive competitive environment while supporting the program’s overall vision.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Head Coach with planning and leading daily practices.
• Coach runners in proper technique, pacing, race strategy, and conditioning.
• Help create a positive, inclusive, and encouraging team culture.
• Supervise student-athletes during practices, meets, travel, and team events.
• Support meet-day preparation, warm-ups, and race-day responsibilities.
• Track athlete progress and provide constructive feedback.
• Ensure all activities follow SDHSAA and district guidelines.
• Communicate effectively with athletes, families, staff, and the Head Coach.
• Assist with administrative duties such as scheduling, equipment management, and communication as needed.

Qualifications

Required:

• Knowledge of running fundamentals, endurance training, and safe conditioning practices.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• Ability to work positively with high-school athletes.
• Must meet all SDHSAA Coaching requirements. 

Preferred:

• Previous coaching or competitive running experience.
• Familiarity with high school cross country and SDHSAA rules.
• Teacher Certification.
