We are seeking a full-time Charge Registered Nurse (RN) to provide clinical leadership and oversight during assigned shifts in a correctional healthcare setting. This role is responsible for supervising nursing and support staff, coordinating patient care, and ensuring the delivery of safe, efficient, and high-quality services.
The Charge RN works under the direction of the Director of Nursing (DON) and/or Nursing Supervisor and partners with a multidisciplinary team to assess and address the physical, psychological, and social needs of patients.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and oversight to nursing and support staff during assigned shifts
- Coordinate daily clinical operations to ensure continuity and quality of care
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care in collaboration with the care team
- Respond to medical emergencies and offer clinical direction in urgent situations
- Ensure compliance with facility policies, procedures, and regulatory standards
- Administer medications and treatments per established protocols
- Monitor patient conditions and communicate changes to appropriate providers
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in electronic health records (EHR)
- Delegate tasks effectively and ensure staff accountability and performance
- Assist with staff training, onboarding, and ongoing development
- Reinforce infection control practices and maintain a safe, secure environment
- Act as a liaison between nursing staff, providers, and administration
Qualifications
- Associate Degree in Nursing required; BSN preferred
- Active, unrestricted RN license in Maryland
- Current BLS/CPR certification
- Up-to-date TB screening/documentation
- At least 1 year of RN experience in hospital, outpatient, or long-term care preferred
- Previous charge nurse or leadership experience preferred
- Correctional healthcare experience is a plus
- Ability to pass background check and drug screening
