What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lab Technician position at DELCORA?
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES: Performance of physical, chemical, and biological analyses of municipal and industrial wastewaters and sludges. The work also includes preparing the necessary agents and equipment for testing.
Essential Duties:
- Performs standard tests to determine total suspended solids, total solids, total dissolved solids, biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), carbonaceous BOD, dissolved oxygen, pH, fecal coliforms, total residual chlorine, and simple nutrients for compliance and process control samples.
- Operate and troubleshoots laboratory instruments and equipment used to perform the required analytical methods.
- Cleans, maintains, and stores laboratory equipment and supplies, and performs general housekeeping of laboratory including inventory checks and ordering.
- Prepares reagents and standard test solutions routinely used in the laboratory.
- Prepares data sheets, maintains test result records, and associated documentation including chain of custodies, logging and ordering of reagents, and entering data into the operational data management system.
- May collect samples for testing and perform other work as directed.
- Must be a detail-oriented team player and able to work with minimum direct supervision.
REQUIREMENTS OF THE WORK:
Basic knowledge of standard laboratory principles, procedures, techniques, terminology, equipment, and materials. Some knowledge of the basic principles of quantitative analysis and bacteriology. Skill in the operation and care of standard laboratory equipment and apparatus. Ability to perform technical laboratory work with accuracy extending to competent computer skills.
Ability to interpret oral and written instructions. Knowledge of and ability (written and oral) to apply the mathematic, communicative, scientific, and clerical skills necessary in a professional manner.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the work (lifting and moving of heavy objects, etc.). Position involves standing for long periods of time.
Laboratory technicians work Monday β Friday with a rotating schedule for holidays and weekends with overtime compensation.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Degree in Chemistry, Biology or equivalent preferred, with 1-2 years of experience in a relevant, professional laboratory setting.
