The Intern is part of the office of Communications, which executes a comprehensive marketing strategy to advance the Department’s mission to Protect Delaware’s environment for current and future generations.

Summary Statement

DNREC is seeking a casual seasonal marketing communications intern to join our Office of Communications for up to 29 hours per week from January to May 2026. The intern will help the team develop content, increase brand awareness, engage with constituents, and support our mission. Working under the guidance of the marketing manager, but collaborating closely with the entire team, the intern will contribute to a wide range of marketing and communications efforts. This internship is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience and contribute to real-world projects in a dynamic and collaborative environment.

Essential Functions

  • Basic understanding of marketing concepts and strategies.
  • Assist with creating content for various platforms, including our digital newsletter, online magazine, social media pages, website, print materials and presentation.
  • Assist with drafts of articles, media advisories and news releases.
  • Must demonstrate responsibility, dependability, and good communication skills.
  • Maintain a positive attitude.
  • Perform other related work as required.
  • Other duties as required.

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  • An undergraduate student pursuing a bachelor’s degree program in business, communications, journalism, marketing and/or related field.
  • Knowledge of social media content creation and platform management including paid ads and boosted posts.
  • Knowledge of writing copy and editorial for marketing media.
  • Knowledge of gathering, organizing, formatting, interpreting, or editing information and disseminating the information through the use of print, broadcast, or digital media.
  • Knowledge of trade shows or special events to promote a product or service.
  • Knowledge of photography and/or videography.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked, or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

Additional Posting Information

The State of Delaware recognizes the value of telework and flexible working schedules. This position is eligible for Alternative Work Schedules according to the State of Delaware’s Alternative Work Arrangement Policy. More information will be shared at the time of interview.

This is a Casual/Seasonal position which is a non-pension eligible position without healthcare and/or other benefits.

Criminal background check: A satisfactory criminal background check is required as a condition of hire. The recruiting agency may require the applicant to pay for the criminal background check as part of the conditional offer of hire.

As a condition of hire you must possess a valid driver's license (not suspended, revoked, or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

All new hires are required to report to the Statewide New Employee Orientation (SNEO) on their first day of employment. Sessions are held at designated locations in Kent or New Castle County.

Selection Process
