What are the responsibilities and job description for the Long Term Substitute Special Education Service Coordinator for Early Intervention position at Delaware County Intermediate Unit?
The job of Service Coordinator was established for the purpose/s of serving as Local Education Agency (LEA) representative for DCIU Early Intervention programs and services; Develop individualized education programs and coordinate services between DCIU, family, and contracted providers for classroom and related services.
Essential Functions
- Collaborate with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents and a variety of community resources for the purpose of delivering relevant and appropriate services to the student.
- Facilitate And Participate in a variety of written materials (e.g. evaluation reports and individual education programs etc.) for the purpose of producing all mandated forms and procedures within established timelines.
- Maintains current knowledge of early childhood education (e.g. best practices, special education methodologies, evaluation instruments, and assessment techniques) for the purpose of applying them to early intervention.
- Maintains current knowledge of state and federal special education regulations including accessing basic education circulars and OCDEL announcements for the purpose of ensuring
- Manages a student caseload for the purpose of assuring all services on the IEP are delivered to children and families within timelines.
- Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources (e.g. other teachers, parents, administrators, LEA’s, districts, behavior support consultants ) for the purpose of resolving issues, providing information and/or direction.
- Supports classroom teachers, families, and staff members for the purpose of assisting them in the ER/IEP process.
- Understand services for a variety of disabilities, placement options and children in the transition process (e.g. birth to three to EI, EI to school age) for the purpose of ensuring student access to IEP services.
- Advises parents and/or legal guardians for the purpose of helping families access community educational resources, and medical assistance.
- Establish and maintain working relationships with teachers, therapists and agencies for the purpose of meeting the needs of eligible preschoolers.
- Participates in a variety of meetings for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
- Participates in data collection for the purpose of ACCESS
- Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Education Required: Bachelor’s Degree in job related area; master’s degree preferred
Certification Required: Valid PDE certification in Special Education or Speech Correction with Masters in Speech and Language Pathology and has obtained Certificate of Clinical Competence.
Experience Required: Job related experience required
Experience Preferred: Speech and language background
Other Qualifications: Minimum 5 to 7 years direct experience as a special education teacher or speech pathologist in public education
