POSITION SUMMARY

The Educational Assistant supports teachers in creating a positive, engaging, and well-managed learning environment where every student can succeed. Working under the direction of a certified teacher and school administration, the Educational Assistant provides instructional, behavioral, and organizational support while building positive relationships with students and contributing to a safe and welcoming school culture.

Educational Assistants reinforce classroom instruction, support individual student needs, assist with classroom management, and help create an environment where students are academically, socially, and emotionally successful.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Instructional Support

• Assist teachers in delivering classroom instruction and reinforcing learning objectives.
• Work with individual students and small groups to provide targeted academic support.
• Prepare instructional materials, classroom resources, and learning activities.
• Support differentiated instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
• Encourage student engagement, independence, and confidence in learning.

Student Support

• Build positive, respectful relationships with students while maintaining professional boundaries.
• Support student behavior through restorative and developmentally appropriate practices.
• Assist students with classroom routines, organization, and transitions.
• Supervise students during instructional periods, lunch, recess, arrival, dismissal, and other assigned activities.
• Help maintain a safe, orderly, and welcoming learning environment.

Classroom & School Operations

• Assist with organizing classroom materials and maintaining an effective learning environment.
• Observe student progress and communicate concerns or successes to the classroom teacher.
• Support the use of classroom technology and instructional resources.
• Assist with field trips, school events, assemblies, and other student activities.
• Perform additional duties assigned that support the educational mission of Tolbert at DeLaSalle.

Collaboration

• Work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, counselors, and support staff.
• Communicate professionally with students, families, and colleagues.
• Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and school initiatives.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding student information in accordance with FERPA and district policies.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to work effectively with children in a school environment.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to follow direction while demonstrating initiative and flexibility.
• Ability to establish positive working relationships with students, families, and colleagues.

Preferred

• Associate degree or college coursework in education or a related field.
• Missouri substitute certification
• Experience working with elementary and/or middle school students.
• Experience supporting students with diverse academic, behavioral, or social-emotional needs.
• Experience in urban education, charter schools, or youth development programs.
• Knowledge of restorative practices, trauma-informed instruction, MTSS, or PBIS.

Salary : $35,000 - $55,000
