POSITION SUMMARY:
The Lactation Counselor facilitates current, consistent and precise instruction for all lactating mothers in the Maternal Child areas which include: Labor and Delivery and Mother Baby. The Lactation Counselor functions in coordination with the hospitals policies and procedures to constantly provide improvement in the area of lactation coordination using the coist/quality models. Functions include managing the Maternal Child area’s breastfeeding programs, utilizing support education and intervention in the inpatient setting as well as throughout the continuum of care.

Job Summary And Qualifications

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Consult with medical staff and seek appropriate medical management as needed.
- Educated staff through in servicing and evaluating of breastfeeding techniques. Provides education to mother during prenatal classes and continuing through discharge planning follow up.
- Familiar with all types of breastfeeding equipment through product evaluation and usage. Able to determine appropriate usage of equipment. Right product for right patient at the right time.
- Available to provide outreach teaching to physician’s offices, skills fairs, and community programs.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date
- (CLC) Certified Lactation Counselor must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date
- Associate Degree, or Bachelors Degree, or Vocational School Graduate
- Should have experience teaching staff through educational in services or seminars. Previous teaching experience preferred
- Preferred healthcare experience
