Position Summary
The Machinist is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining machining equipment to manufacture, repair, and modify precision parts and components. This position also assists with general shop operations, equipment maintenance, mechanical repairs, and other manufacturing-related duties as assigned. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and a commitment to workplace safety and quality.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Set up and operate milling machines, lathes, drill presses, grinders, and other machine shop equipment.
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, sketches, and work orders.
- Measure and inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments, including calipers, micrometers, indicators, and gauges.
- Perform machining operations such as drilling, boring, tapping, threading, turning, milling, reaming, and cutting materials to required specifications.
- Select appropriate tooling, fixtures, speeds, and feeds for machining operations.
- Maintain dimensional accuracy and quality standards throughout the manufacturing process.
- Assist with the repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting of manufacturing equipment and machinery.
- Perform basic mechanical assembly, disassembly, adjustment, and repair of equipment and components.
- Safely operate power tools, hand tools, hydraulic equipment, pneumatic tools, and other shop equipment.
- Assist with preventative maintenance activities throughout the shop.
- Support general shop operations, including material handling, cleaning work areas, organizing tools, and maintaining equipment.
- Identify worn or damaged tooling and equipment and notify supervision of repair or replacement needs.
- Maintain accurate production and maintenance records as required.
- Follow all company policies, quality standards, and safety procedures, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Work collaboratively with supervisors, maintenance personnel, engineers, and other production employees.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support business operations.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Experience operating milling machines and lathes.
- Working knowledge of machining practices, cutting tools, materials, and precision measuring equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to safely operate power tools and shop equipment.
- Basic math skills, including measurements, fractions, decimals, and geometry.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining productivity and quality.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in a manufacturing or aerospace machine shop.
- Experience with equipment maintenance and mechanical repair.
- Fabrication experience is a plus.
- Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification.

Work Environment
This position works primarily in a manufacturing and machine shop environment. The employee will regularly operate industrial machinery and equipment and must comply with all safety policies and procedures. Overtime and occasional weekend work may be required based on production demands.
