The DeKalb County Facilities Management Office is seeking a reliable and motivated individual to join our team as a part-time General Maintenance employee. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to gain hands-on experience in building, grounds, and facility maintenance.
Position Type: Part-time (19 hours per week)
Work Hours: Monday through Friday, 5:00 AM to 9:00 AM; Friday, 5:00 AM to 8:00 AM
Starting Pay: $19.38 per hour
Union: AFSCME
What You'll Do: In this role, you will receive training and assist with a wide variety of maintenance and custodial tasks essential to the operation and appearance of County facilities. Responsibilities include:
- Performing semi-skilled and unskilled maintenance, repair, and building alteration work
- Painting, changing light bulbs, unclogging drains, and handling minor equipment repairs
- Groundskeeping duties such as mowing, trimming, seeding, fertilizing, and snow removal (by hand and machine)
- Assisting senior maintenance staff and receiving on-the-job training
- Reporting supply needs, equipment issues, and other concerns to supervisors
- Performing custodial tasks including sweeping, cleaning, dusting, and vacuuming
- Helping with meeting room setups and additional duties as assigned
What We're Looking For:
- High school education (or equivalent), preferably with shop classes
- No previous experience required - training will be provided
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Willingness to learn proper use of maintenance tools, methods, and procedures
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, staff, and the public
- Must pass a criminal background check prior to employment
