What are the responsibilities and job description for the Systems Engineer- Internship- Summer 2026 position at DEKA Research & Development?
DEKA Research & Development is looking for a Systems Engineer summer intern to be part of our multidisciplinary team that is currently working on a low cost medical device. The candidate will have mechanical or electrical skills as well as an understanding of basic problem solving. The successful candidate will use these talents in service of engineering level testing of design features and product technologies.
DEKA offers Internships and Co-Ops for full time students* (must be at least 18 years of age). Internships last a minimum of 10 weeks, but 12 weeks is preferred. All summer internships must start no later than June 15, 2026.

How you will make an impact as an Systems Engineering Intern:
- Structure and perform testing to support engineering decision making
- Document testing results and potentially perform statistical analysis
- Participate in brainstorming for new feature design
- Design and construct test fixtures/equipment
- Clearly communicate findings and potential issues with team
- Must be a Mechanical, Electrical or Biomedical engineering student.
- Hands on mechanical or electrical experience desired (professional or hobby)
- Looking for a motivated self-starter who can operate independently when needed
- Proficiency in basic data entry/statistical software desired (Excel, Minitab, Matlab)

- A full time student is defined as being enrolled in a minimum of 12 credits per semester at an undergraduate program, or a minimum of 9 credits per semester for a graduate program.
