Director of Finance

DeJoy and Co. CPAs is partnering with a local Industrial Distribution Company in search of a new Director of Finance to join their leadership team and play a key role in the financial management and continued growth of the employee-owned company.

This is more than a traditional accounting leadership position. The Director of Finance will oversee accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, working capital, internal controls, and financial analysis while serving as a trusted business partner to executive management.

What You'll Do

Financial Leadership & Reporting

• Lead the accounting and financial reporting functions.
• Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
• Maintain strong accounting policies, procedures, internal controls, and financial records.
• Partner with outside CPAs and accounting professionals on annual review and year-end activities.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis

• Lead annual budgeting and forecasting processes.
• Maintain forecasts for sales, gross profit, expenses, EBITDA, cash flow, and working capital.
• Analyze budget-to-actual and prior-year results and communicate the reasons behind significant variances.
• Develop financial models and scenario analyses to support strategic business decisions.

Cash Flow & Working Capital

• Oversee cash flow, liquidity, and working-capital management.
• Develop cash flow forecasts and identify opportunities to improve cash conversion.
• Analyze accounts receivable, accounts payable, inventory, and customer and supplier payment terms.

Inventory & Profitability

• Monitor inventory investment, turns, aging, excess and obsolete inventory.
• Analyze profitability by customer, product, business unit, salesperson, branch, and other relevant categories.
• Partner with sales, purchasing, and operations to improve profitability and working-capital utilization.
• Support pricing and contract decisions with financial analysis.

ESOP Leadership

• Serve as a primary financial resource for the company's Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP).
• Coordinate and support the annual ESOP valuation process.
• Work with the ESOP trustee, valuation firm, accountants, attorneys, and other advisors.
• Help management understand the relationship between financial performance, enterprise value, and long-term value for employee-owners.

Banking, Financing & Compliance

• Maintain banking and lending relationships in partnership with executive management.
• Monitor debt, interest rates, financial covenants, and liquidity requirements.
• Coordinate tax matters with outside professionals.
• Support tax compliance, audits, notices, and other regulatory requirements.

Leadership & Business Partnership

• Provide meaningful financial reporting and analysis to executive management and the Board of Directors.
• Develop and monitor key financial performance indicators.
• Partner with sales, purchasing, operations, Human Resources, and executive leadership.
• Lead, develop, and support the accounting and finance team.
• Identify opportunities to improve financial systems, processes, reporting, and automation.

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Significant progressive accounting and financial management experience.
• Previous management or leadership experience within an accounting or finance function.
• Strong understanding of financial statements, accounting, cash flow, working capital, inventory, budgeting, forecasting, and financial controls.
• Strong analytical and financial modeling skills.
• Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP and financial reporting systems.
• Experience working with banks, auditors, accountants, insurance professionals, and other outside financial advisors.
• Strong communication, judgment, leadership, and organizational skills.
• Ability to translate complex financial information into practical business recommendations.

Preferred Qualifications

• CPA, CMA, MBA, or similar advanced qualification.
• Experience in distribution, manufacturing, industrial supply, or another inventory-intensive business.
• ESOP experience.

The Ideal Candidate

We're looking for a proactive financial leader who is equally comfortable ensuring the books are accurate and sitting with executive management to discuss profitability, cash flow, inventory, and working capital.

In an ESOP environment, this role also carries an important responsibility: helping protect and grow long-term enterprise value for the company's employee-owners.

Salary Range: $115,000-$150,000 based on experience
