Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Medical Records Specialist to join our personal injury law firm. This position is critical in building strong cases by obtaining, organizing, and analyzing medical documentation essential to our clients' claims. The ideal candidate will have experience working with medical records, an understanding of HIPAA compliance, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced legal environment.
Responsibilities
Medical Records Management
- Request, obtain, and track medical records from hospitals, clinics, physicians, and other healthcare providers
- Review and organize medical documentation chronologically and by treatment provider
- Identify gaps in medical records and follow up with providers to obtain missing documentation
- Maintain comprehensive tracking systems for all record requests and receipts
- Save all documentation, including, but not limited to: receipts for payment, medical records, billing records, and record requests
Case Support
- Analyze medical records to identify key treatment details, diagnoses, and prognoses relevant to personal injury claims and update Case Management Software accordingly
- Coordinate with healthcare providers to obtain medical reports, bills, and estimates for recommended procedures
- Assist attorneys in understanding complex medical terminology and treatment protocols
Administrative Duties
- Ensure strict compliance with HIPAA regulations and client confidentiality requirements
- Maintain organized physical and electronic filing systems for medical records
- Process and organize medical bills for economic damage calculations
- Communicate professionally with medical providers' offices and records departments
- Update case management software with medical record information and status updates
- Verify medical balances
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree in Health Information Management, Medical Assisting, or related field preferred
- Previous experience in personal injury law firm strongly preferred
- Proficiency in case management software and medical record database systems
- Bilingual capabilities (Spanish/English) preferred

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $15.00 - $25.00 per hour
