What are the responsibilities and job description for the Trading Card Research Specialist – Trading Card Company position at Degree Media, Inc?
Las Vegas, NV | 30 to 40 hours per week | $15.00 to $17.00 per hour | In person
The role
We are a growing trading card grading company looking for a Trading Card Researcher to accurately identify, catalog, and verify the cards submitted to us.
This is an apprentice-style role for someone who already knows trading cards and wants to turn that knowledge into a career. You will learn our research process from the ground up, work alongside experienced team members, and develop expertise across sports cards, Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and other collectible categories.
Your job is to determine exactly what each card is before it reaches grading. That includes identifying the correct year, set, manufacturer, card number, player or character, variation, parallel, language, and other important attributes.
If you enjoy tracking down obscure parallels, distinguishing nearly identical variations, and solving the mystery of a card that is not immediately recognizable, this may be the right role for you.
What you will do
- Identify submitted cards by year, set, manufacturer, card number, player, character, variation, parallel, and other relevant attributes
- Research unfamiliar, vintage, foreign-language, promotional, error, and short-print cards using reliable reference sources
- Distinguish between cards with similar designs, numbering, foil patterns, finishes, or variations
- Enter card information accurately into our internal database
- Match cards to existing records and create or correct records when necessary
- Review card images and physical details to confirm the correct identification
- Flag counterfeit concerns, altered cards, or uncertain identifications for senior review
- Handle vintage, modern, sports, Pokémon, Magic, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and other collectible cards with care
- Meet daily production targets while maintaining a high level of accuracy
- Communicate clearly when additional review or research is needed
What we are looking for
- Strong working knowledge of at least one major trading card category, such as sports, Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh!, or a similar collectible category
- Familiarity with card sets, manufacturers, parallels, variations, promotional releases, and card numbering
- Strong research skills and the ability to verify information using multiple reliable sources
- Exceptional attention to detail, especially when comparing cards that appear nearly identical
- Comfort working with databases, spreadsheets, websites, and internal software
- The patience to investigate unfamiliar cards rather than making assumptions
- Genuine enthusiasm for trading cards and collectible history
- The ability to work carefully, consistently, and efficiently in a production environment
- Prior experience collecting seriously, working at a card shop, organizing inventory, selling cards, breaking products, or cataloging collectibles is a strong plus
Compensation and schedule
- $15.00 to $17.00 per hour, depending on experience and demonstrated knowledge
- 30 to 40 hours per week
- On-site in Las Vegas, Nevada
Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour
Benefits:
- Paid time off

- What's your background with trading cards?
- Use this space to demonstrate the depth of your trading card knowledge.
