Defiance County Dog Warden – Chief Dog Warden
The Board of Commissioners of Defiance County, Ohio, is accepting applications for the position of Chief Dog Warden. This position is a full-time position; Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Will also serve in an on-call rotation. Full-time employees are entitled to paid holidays, eligible for County health insurance, and earn vacation time. All County employees are participants in the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS).
The primary objective of this position, under the general direction of the Board of Commissioners and direct supervision of the County Administrator, is to manage the Dog Warden’s Office pursuant to Ohio Revised Code. The Chief Dog Warden will implement and enforce administrative policies to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local standards. The Chief Dog Warden is also responsible for seizing and impounding stray dogs; assessing potentially dangerous dogs and taking appropriate action; responding to dog bites and attacks; issuing court citations and/or warnings for violations of the Ohio Revised Code; coordinating and maintaining a dog licensing program; and developing and administering the departmental budget, among various other duties.
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent certification; law enforcement and animal handling experience preferred. Must have possession of a valid Ohio driver’s license and an acceptable driving record. Salary range for this position is $56,160 - $66,560.
