Environmental Protection Specialist.

Duties

• Serves as the senior Environmental Protection Specialist within assigned areas and supports DLA Disposition Services Field Activities disposing of Hazardous materials/waste.
• Ensures and documents the environmental compliance of DLA Disposition Services field activities by conducting thorough inspections and audits;
• Such as hazardous waste disposal contractors, Treatment, Storage, and Disposal Facilities (TSDFs), and hazardous property sales customers.
• Evaluates the efficiency of field activities through statistical analysis, quality assurance inspections, and reviews of automated information systems reports, briefing top management on findings and significant data trends.
• Prepares and presents detailed reports and briefings on program status, compliance audits, and significant data trends to senior leadership and responds to complex inquiries.
• Develops and implements new and revised environmental policies and procedures, advises on their implementation, and evaluates requests for deviation from standard operating procedures.
• Maintains a strong liaison with military services and other federal agencies to exchange disposal information, coordinate new programs, and represent DLA Disposition Services at meetings and forums.

Qualifications

To qualify for an Environmental Protection Specialist, your resume and supporting documentation must support:

• Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly in or related to this position. To qualify at the GS-12 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes:
• Managing environmental program activities, field operations, or waste disposal projects to ensure compliance with applicable environmental laws and regulations.
• Applying federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulations to manage hazardous property shipments, oversee environmental disposal programs, and evaluate hazardous waste transporters, disposal facilities, and sales purchasers.
• Utilizing data management systems, inventory tracking databases, or specialized environmental management systems to log, track, and report on material.
• Developing, analyzing, or interpreting environmental policies and procedures, and providing technical guidance, reports, or briefings to stakeholders and program leadership.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Drug-Free Workplace Policy

The Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) is committed to maintaining a safe, drug-free workplace. All DLA employees are required to refrain from illegal drug use on and off duty. DLA conducts pre-employment, reasonable suspicion, post-accident, and random drug testing.

Applicants tentatively selected for employment in testing designated positions will undergo a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
