Eligibility:
- Must be a former or current Transportation Security Officer.
- Must be a certified Level 2 TSO for a minimum of 1 year.
- Must have completed the LTSO Leadership Development Program.
- Must not have any documented disciplinary actions in the last 12 months.
The LTSO performs various duties related to providing security and protection for air travelers, airports, and aircraft. As an LTSO, you will be required to conduct passenger screening and baggage screening. The LTSO will ensure all assigned personnel provide the traveling public with the highest security, customer service, and professionalism. The LTSO will uphold the TSA Mission while exemplifying DCS's core values. You are expected to perform all these duties courteously and professionally.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Perform security screening of persons, including tasks such as pat-down searches, monitoring walk-through metal detector screening equipment, and AIT screening. Perform security screening of property, including the operation of x-ray machines to identify dangerous objects in baggage, cargo, and passengers and prevent those objects from being transported onto aircraft: control entry and exit points. Continuously improve security screening processes and personal performance through training and development. Other Duties: LTSO must maintain focus and awareness and work in a stressful environment. The position requires employees to make effective decisions in crises and routine situations. Necessary skills include visual observation and X-ray interpretation. The work environment includes noise from alarms, machinery, and people, distractions, time pressure, disruptive and angry passengers, and the requirement to identify and locate potentially life-threatening devices and devices to create massive destruction. Manage the daily scheduling of employees for shift rotation, lunches, breaks, playbooks, and other related events during the shift. Perform equipment maintenance and calibrations, ensuring they are completed and actuated. LTSO must effectively communicate with the TSA Coordination Center, the TSA security manager, local law enforcement officers, airline stakeholders, and airport employees. LTSO must be able to complete incident reports, logbooks and PMIS entries, and other documentation as required. As an LTSO, you must assist the STSO with opening and closing the checkpoint and baggage screening areas. LTSOs must assist the STSO with training, monitoring attendance/tardiness, and other duties as needed.
Qualifications
Candidates must be U.S citizens, should be TSA Passengers/Baggage or Dual Function Screeners, and must be OSARP Certified. Should have at least one year experience as a TSO, be proficient in English (e.g., reading, writing, speaking, and listening), and have a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent. The candidate must possess good leadership qualities and strong communication skills to include conflict resolution. Supervisory Responsibilities: Responsible for shift rotation, lunches, breaks, playbooks, and other related events during the shift. Perform equipment maintenance and calibrations, ensuring they are completed and actuated.
Physical Demands: This position requires employees to be willing and able to: repeatedly lift and carry baggage weighing up to 50 pounds; bend, reach, stoop, squat, stand, and walk; continuously stand between one and four hours without a break to carry out screening functions; and walk up to two miles during a shift.
Medical Requirements: LTSO must meet job-related medical standards assessed in a pre-employment medical evaluation that considers relevant aspects of all body systems (e.g., cardiovascular, respiratory, musculoskeletal, auditory, etc.). These medical standards include but are not limited to Visual ability, including two functioning eyes with a) distance vision correctable to 20/30 or better in the best eye and 20/100 or better in the worse eye, b) near vision correctable to 20/40 or better binocular, and c) color perception (e.g., red, green, blue, yellow, orange, purple, brown, black, white, gray). Color filters (e.g., contact lenses) for enhancing color discrimination is prohibited; Hearing ability (corrected or uncorrected) as measured by audiometry cannot exceed: a) an average hearing loss of 25 decibels (ANSI) at 500, 1000, 2000, and 3000Hz in each ear, and b) single reading of 45 decibels at 4000 and 6000 Hz in each ear; Adequate joint mobility, dexterity, and range of motion, strength, and stability to repeatedly lift and carry up to 50 pounds, and Blood pressure not to exceed 140 / 90. Candidates must continue to maintain the same level of medical requirements during employment. Appointment to this position is contingent upon a negative drug test result. Any individual tentatively selected for this position must submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use before the appointment. This position is subject to random drug testing.
Decision Making: Make effective decisions in both crisis and routine situations. Training Requirements: LTSO must take the computerized Screener Assessment Battery. These tests evaluate English proficiency and the aptitude for X-ray interpretation. LTSO must periodically participate in and pass all recurrent and specialized training and recertification tests.
Communication: LTSO must communicate with the public, giving directions and responding to inquiries professionally and courteously. Applicants must possess customer service skills, be dependable, and operate with integrity.
Security Requirements: LTSO must pass a pre-employment drug screening test and a background investigation, including criminal and credit checks. LTSOs must obtain and keep a national Secret security clearance. This non-critical sensitive National Security position requires you to be fingerprinted, photographed, and complete appropriate security paperwork, including an SF-86 Questionnaire for National Security Positions. The pre-employment background investigation must be COMPLETED with favorable results before a final offer of employment and cannot be initiated until a completed questionnaire is submitted.
