What are the responsibilities and job description for the Inventory Control & Receiving Associate position at Defender Outdoors?
We are looking for a detail-driven Inventory Control & Receiving Associate responsible for accurately receiving, verifying, and entering inventory into our system. This role is not general warehouse work. It is a precision-focused position where accuracy, consistency, and strong attention to detail are critical.
The primary function of this role is ensuring all incoming products are received correctly in our system, verified against invoices, and discrepancies are identified and resolved quickly. This includes firearms, ammunition, and other retail products.
This position is Monday-Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm.
This Role Is NOT:
- A general warehouse or order fulfillment position
- Primarily focused on loading/unloading trucks or forklift operation
- A picking/packing or online order role
General Duties Include:
- Receive incoming products into inventory with a high level of accuracy
- Verify shipments against purchase orders and invoices (quantity, quality, price)
- Accurately enter invoices and product data into Lightspeed Retail, ensuring all items are received correctly and matched to purchase orders
- Identify, research, and resolve discrepancies with vendors or shipments
- Maintain organization and cleanliness of the receiving area
- Communicate with suppliers or shippers when issues arise
- Contact customers regarding special-ordered products
- Conduct ongoing inventory cycle counts
- Perform other receiving and inventory control tasks as needed
Skills & Qualifications:
- Minimum 1 year experience in inventory control, receiving, or a similar role focused on data accuracy
- Experience with inventory management or POS systems (Lightspeed Retail or similar preferred)
- Strong data entry skills with the ability to maintain accuracy over extended periods
- Experience verifying shipments and reconciling discrepancies
- Basic math and recordkeeping abilities
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strong communication and problem-solving abilities
- Self-motivated with the ability to stay focused in a task-driven environment
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must be 21 years or older
