Job Function: The Managing Director of Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) provides strategic and operational leadership over the NCAA’s enterprise budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and long-range planning. Reporting to the Vice President of Finance & Administrative Operations and working in close partnership with the Vice President of Accounting & Controllership, this position oversees the development, implementation, and continuous enhancement of the NCAA’s financial strategy.
This is a senior leadership role within Administrative Services, but balanced hand-on support with strategic leadership. The Managing Director is deeply involved in daily financial operations, drives cross-departmental collaboration, and ensures the organization has clear, actionable financial insights to support strategic decision-making and steward NCAA resources responsibly.
Job Responsibilities
Communication & Team Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop FP&A team members to support professional growth, collaboration, and accountability.
- Conduct regular staff meetings, one-on-ones, and development discussions to ensure role clarity, strong performance, and continuous improvement.
- Partner closely with Information Technology to optimize planning and forecasting systems, enhance Domo/EPM capabilities partnering with a team of IT support administrators, and strengthen self-service dashboards and financial data accessibility.
- Cultivate strong working relationships across all NCAA departments to drive understanding of financial drivers, budgets, and planning processes.
- Establish a cadence of interdepartmental forecasting and budgeting support through review sessions, office hours, trainings, and regular communications.
Financial Oversight & Management
- Lead and manage the strategic direction of budgeting, forecasting, long-term planning, and implementation of the NCAA’s financial plan.
- Oversee enterprise financial analysis, modeling, scenario planning, and internal reporting to ensure strong financial operations and visibility.
- Review analytical outputs, provide recommendations related to scenario planning, cost optimization, and strategic financial decisions.
- Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and governance structures that support a scalable and effective FP&A function.
- Partner with departments to evaluate business plans, assess financial impacts of strategic initiatives, and advise on viability and risk.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including variance analysis, trend insights, and scenario implications for leadership.
Financial Data & Insights Transformation
- Partner with IT, Accounting, and business units to strengthen financial data integrity, visibility, and integration across systems (ERP, EPM, Snowflake, Domo).
- Champion efforts to modernize financial reporting, automate routine processes, and expand access to real-time insights.
- Drive enhancements to financial systems to improve forecasting accuracy, planning workflows, and analytic capabilities.
- Serve as a key leader in financial data governance, ensuring strong processes for data quality, ownership, and change management.
- Lead FP&A contributions to cross-functional transformation initiatives, including system upgrades, tools modernization, and operational improvement efforts.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of seven years of progressively responsible financial experience in corporate, government, consulting, or intercollegiate athletics/business operations.
- Expertise in financial modeling, scenario planning, forecasting, and decision support.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial management principles.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex financial data and deliver meaningful insights that drive decisions.
- Strong understanding of source system data and how to leverage it for problem solving and managerial reporting.
- Preferred experience with Oracle ERP and Oracle EPM; familiarity with Snowflake, Domo, or similar systems preferred.
- Proven experience supporting or leading financial transformations or modernization efforts.
- Excellent executive-level communication skills, including written narratives and presentation materials.
Other Requirements
- Estimated travel <20%.
- Role is based at the national office in Indianapolis, Indiana.
- Hybrid work environment: currently three days in office, two days remote.
