Summary: The Corporate Environmental Manager position ensures proper air, water, and waste compliance and documentation across the company. This position works under immediate supervision of the Vice President of Environmental, Health, Safety, and Security.  Responsibilities include tracking, verifying, and ensuring air, water, and waste compliance with all regulatory criteria to support company-wide excellence in environmental, health, and safety management.  This includes all year end and routine data collection and reporting, as well as coordinating and managing internal and external compliance audits.  This position ensures compliance with EHSS polices and applicable regulations through partnership with local management at each facility, as well as the corporate support roles.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Lead the organization to best in class performance in all areas of environmental compliance
  • Create structure and accountability that fosters a zero environmental deviation culture
  • Lead permitting efforts for both new projects and renewals
  • Manage stack testing schedules and objectives
  • Participate in M&A activities, as needed
  • Utilize Process Map to collect and evaluate trends for environmental performance
  • Lead investigations into significant incidents related to environmental compliance
  • Monitor performance of environmental compliance equipment and processes
  • Ensures sites follow environmental regulations and permit conditions
  • Assist sites with EHSS data collection, recordkeeping and ensure timely submission of periodic reports
  • Ensure compliance with appropriate regulatory sampling and submittals
  • Maintain compliance with all SWPPP and SPCC requirements.
  • Maintain a list of all current Water Treatment Chemicals for all sites
  • Ensuring all environmental PMs and Work Orders are completed.
  • Maintenance of water flow and monitoring equipment, service contracts, budget, and schedule
  • Support ESG initiatives and data reporting requirements to reduce environmental footprint.
  • Support site management to close audit findings and implement audit
  • Lead, coordinate, and participate in EHSS performance improvement and process optimization initiatives
  • Provide guidance to sites in identifying and tracking appropriate metrics and assessing site performance
  • Address any regulatory audits, findings, NOVs, and action items promptly
  • Will routinely (weekly) follow-up and report to corporate on status of permitting
  • Will assist in shutdown planning, plant training, and annual reporting
  • Will track environmental compliance status of reporting and recordkeeping for each site
  • Will provide guidance, technical expertise, and leadership to EHSS and Plant Managers

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in science, engineering, or related field required, 10 years of experience in the environmental field.
  • PE with credentials for SPCC certification a plus
  • Experience writing SWPPP, SPCC, FRP, and Water Permit Applications
  • Ethanol experience a plus, Strong Environmental Background Required.
  • Detailed knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations dealing with water and waste quality including, but not limited to: CAA, CWA, NPDES, Storm water, Public Water, Water Appropriation regulations, along with experience writing and managing SWPPP, SPCC, and FRP, and RCRA.
  • Detail-oriented; proficiency for accuracy; dependable; positive attitude; team player
  • Strong knowledge of root cause analysis techniques
  • Strong MS Office experience and proficiency with developing and using spreadsheets and/or databases.
  • Ability to lead by example, multi-task, and take ownership of assigned projects
  • Ability to provide rational oversight and control to the department in times of crisis
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Exceptional organizational skills as they pertain to record keeping and reporting
  • Valid driver’s license required.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • Travel will be expected – up to 25% of the time
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time
  • Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and access elevated platforms during site visits
  • Ability to work in varied environmental conditions, including exposure to heat, cold, noise, dust, and outdoor weather conditions during facility inspections
  • Ability to use standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and mobile devices
  • Ability to travel by car and air, including overnight travel, as required
  • Office environment with frequent use of computers and electronic data systems
  • Manufacturing and industrial plant environments with exposure to moving equipment, chemicals, and process operations
  • Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, steel-toed footwear, hearing protection, and other site-specific safety gear
  • Interaction with regulatory agencies, auditors, contractors, and plant personnel
