Pre-Professional/Gap year Internship- Deerfield and Gurnee, Illinois
Purpose
Deerfield Dermatology has been providing a gap year opportunity for those interested in careers in the medical profession such as Medical school, Physician Assistant school, nurse Nurse Practitioner school and more.
Working along side our highly skilled team of Dermatologists, MOHS surgeon, PAs and NPs the interns gain valuable hands-on clinical and administrative experience in dermatology.
Our previous interns have successfully placed in medical school, nursing school and other advanced practice programs.

Roles and Responsibilities
- Support the clinical providers with patient related tasks.
- Preparation of patient exam rooms with materials, instruments, equipment etc.
- Escort patient to room, assist with patient intake, including verifying insurance coverage and updating medical records.
- Record and maintain accurate patient vital signs and medical histories.
- Support physicians and advanced practice providers during examinations and treatments.
- Assist in surgical and cosmetic procedures, pre op preparation by giving injections, remove sutures.
- Provide medical administrative support such as scheduling appointments and managing patient inquiries.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and maintain patient confidentiality.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure efficient patient flow within the clinic.
- Educate patients on medical conditions, procedures, medications.
- Contact patients with lab and pathology results.
- Clean and sterilize medical instruments, clean exam rooms and work areas, stock inventory as needed.
- Other responsibilities assigned by Practice Administrator or Clinician
Education requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent
Qualifications:
- Compassionate, pleasant and dedicated to providing the highest level of patient care.
- Multitasker, Quick learner collaborative able to work in a fast paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills for effective patient interaction.
Preferred Skills
- Proficiency in medical terminology and physiology knowledge
- Associate's degree or Bachelors
- Experience working in urgent care, hospital, or outpatient clinic settings.
- Strong understanding of medical systems and electronic health records.
- Certified Medical Assistant or Certified Nursing Assistant
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 40 per week
