Deer Park Refining Limited Partnership (DPRLP) known as PEMEX Deer Park is a highly complex refinery located 18 miles east of Houston in Deer Park, TX, and is a part of the PEMEX group which is a fully integrated oil company in the Americas, working across the entire value chain: exploration, production, industrial processing/refining, logistics and marketing. PEMEX Deer Park provides a diverse and inclusive work environment that employs approximately 1000 employees with another 1200 contractors on site. The refinery’s rated capacity is 340,000 barrels per day and has the feed flexibility to process multiple grades of crudes to produce the high-quality transportation fuels the world needs. Job Summary

The Analytical Chemist (AC) is a key position within the Laboratory organization in the Technology group (inclusive of Process Safety & Engineering, Instrumentation & Process Control, Project Process Engineering, and Causal Learning). This role provides technical support for laboratory instrumentation and analytical methods. 

In partnership with the Laboratory Applications Specialist, the AC serves as front-line support for instrument and method calibration, validation, troubleshooting, statistical quality control (SQC), and overall technical assurance. This is a highly collaborative role, working closely with Laboratory Technicians, Process Chemists, the Product Quality Focal Point, vendors, and Production teams.


 

Accountabilities & Responsibilities:

  •  Apply ASTM test methodologies for crude, intermediate, and finished products.
  • Install, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for laboratory instrumentation.
  • Apply knowledge of ASTM D6299 and standard laboratory SQC practices.
  • Provide technical training on analytical methods and instrumentation to laboratory technicians.
  • Support Operations and Process Chemists with analytical expertise as required.
  • Participate in and support the Management of Change (MOC) process.


Beneficial skills:

  • Experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
  • Experience with chemometrics techniques (NIR, Raman,etc ).
  • Knowledge of standard refinery operating units and processes.
  • Hands on experience with GC, GC-MS, HPLC, ICP, ICP-MS, IC, distillation, signal -to-noise analysis. 
  • EPA Fuels Compliance knowledge and experience

Qualifications: 

Skills & Requirements Required:

  • Minimum of 5 years of industrial laboratory experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) or higher in Chemistry or a related scientific field
  • Demonstrated experience with analytical testing methods and laboratory equipment

Job Knowledge, Skills & Experience 

Minimum of 5 years of industrial laboratory experience.

Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.

Education and Experience: 


B.S. or higher in Chemistry or related field
