What are the responsibilities and job description for the Farmworker Laborer and Crop position at Deep Roots Farm LLC?
Will prune, plant, cultivate, irrigate, fertilize, harvest and sort crops, while working outside in all types of weather. Must be able to use hand tools such as: shovels, trowels, hoes, tampers, pruning hooks, shears and knives. The employer, at no cost, will provide to the worker any tools or equipment necessary to perform the required tasks. Duties may include tilling soil, transplanting, weeding, mulching, applying and removing row covers, thinning, or pruning crops; cleaning, packing, and loading harvested products. Harvest vegetables according to size, shape and degree of maturity. Place vegetables into field containers. All work must be performed carefully according to instructions to avoid damage or harm to crops. May construct trellises, repair fences and farm buildings, participate in irrigation activities and other farm related activities. Must be able to work outdoors in dusty and dirty conditions, in extremes of heat and cold and in inclement weather. Must be able to crouch, bend, and sit on the ground, and lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds. Must have a valid driver's license. Must be able to read and comprehend English.
Must be able to listen to, understand and follow simple instructions of field leaders and supervisor to ensure all work meets employer's quality standards, certified organic standards and food safety standards. This job requires three months (or 480 hours) of verifiable prior experience. Employer operates a certified organic farm and does not use harmful, synthetic chemicals to kill weeds, pests or to fertilize. However, if applicable, employer will comply with re-entry restrictions applicable to pesticides and other chemicals used in the fields. Workers may not report for work while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The possession or use of illegal drugs or alcohol (exception is made for moderate alcohol consumption in company housing during non-working hours) on company property is prohibited and will be cause for termination. Tasks will be related to a diverse variety of fruit and vegetable crops.
