Duties
- Safely direct traffic around construction zones using standardized hand signals, flags, and signage to protect workers and the public
- Set up and maintain proper traffic control devices, including cones, barricades, and signs, in accordance with ATSSA (American Traffic Safety Services Association) guidelines
- Communicate clearly with construction teams, motorists, and pedestrians to ensure awareness of ongoing work activities
- Monitor work zones continuously for safety hazards or traffic issues and respond promptly to mitigate risks
- Assist with the installation, removal, and maintenance of temporary traffic control equipment
- Follow all safety protocols and procedures to uphold OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) standards
- Support additional construction activities such as basic equipment operation if certified or trained in heavy machinery like dozers, loaders, backhoes, or graders
Requirements
- Valid certification as a Traffic Control Flagger is preferred but not required; certification must be current and maintained regularly
- Prior experience working on construction sites or in traffic management is preferred but not required; training will be provided for qualified candidates
- Knowledge of traffic control devices, signage standards, and safety regulations is essential
- Ability to stand for extended periods and work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Strong communication skills to effectively coordinate with team members and the public
- Basic understanding of construction processes and site safety practices
