DESCRIPTION

Decypher is seeking a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC), JBSA Fort Sam Houston, TX

RESPONSIBILITIES

CNAs shall perform essentially the same duties, as those required of any military or government civil service nursing assistant of similar experience and within the skill set of accepted practice to include inpatient psychiatry. This list of duties is not intended to establish either a maximum or minimum acceptable level of effort or be an inclusive listing of anticipated duties. Workload includes either scheduled or emergency requirements for care according to standards.

Documentation & Record-Keeping: Accurately document patient care manually/electronically per BAMC policies. Complete documentation within 72 hours. File lab/X-ray slips and organize patient records.

Patient Assessment & Monitoring: Verify patient identifiers. Monitor and record vital signs, height, weight, and I&O. Observe and report patient distress or condition changes.

Patient Care: Provide basic self-care and therapy info to patients. Assist with personal care: bathing, feeding, hygiene, ambulation. Check IV sites; apply hot/cold packs. Perform glucose monitor quality checks. Collect specimens (e.g., urine, fecal occult blood). Assist in medical exams/procedures (e.g., X-rays, biopsies). Support patient admission, transfer, discharge, and transport. Reinforce staff instructions and provide general hospital info. Care for patients in isolation. Help orient new personnel.

Administrative Support: Assist with clerical tasks and record observations. Maintain unit cleanliness and organize supplies/equipment.

Equipment Monitoring: Perform equipment checks and assist with usage.

Communication & Reporting: Report issues to physician, LVN, or RN. Maintain professional communication with staff, patients, and visitors. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.

Safety & Infection Control: Keep patient areas clean. Follow CDC universal precautions. Identify and report safety hazards. Respond appropriately to emergencies. Comply with BAMC safety/infection control policies.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Education: Completion of a state-approved CNA program and registration in the Nursing Assistant Registry.
• Certification:
  • Passed state CNA exam.
  • Current, active, and unrestricted CNA certification from any U.S. state, DC, or territory.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from AHA or Red Cross.
  • Additional certifications may be required based on position.
• Experience: Minimum of 1 year CNA experience within the last 2 years under supervision of a Physician, LVN, or RN.
• Competency: Must have documented current competence in the required specialty.
• Licensure/Registration: Not required.
• Renewals: Certifications must be renewed before expiration and kept current throughout the contract.
