The Print Operator is a key role responsible for ensuring the efficient and profitable operation of production processes at Decorative Films. This position involves managing day-to-day printing operations, maintaining optimal stock levels of print inventory, inspecting printed products for quality assurance, slitting materials to required specifications, and conducting the packaging of finished products. Additionally, the role includes constructing boxes for shipping orders, cleaning and maintaining printing machinery and work areas, and ensuring ink levels are consistently topped off. Proper storage procedures for printed materials must also be followed to maintain their quality and longevity.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Executing timely and efficient loading and unloading of materials onto machinery.
- Operate and maintain printing machinery to ensure smooth and efficient production.
- Monitor and maintain print inventory levels to prevent shortages or overstock.
- Inspect printed materials for quality, ensuring they meet company standards.
- Slit materials to precise specifications based on product requirements.
- Construct boxes and package finished products securely, following correct packaging protocols for shipping.
- Maintain and clean printing machinery, work areas, and equipment to ensure proper functioning and a safe, organized environment.
- Keep ink levels topped off to ensure consistent print quality and machine operation.
- Follow established storage procedures to ensure the proper handling and preservation of printed products.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure production targets and deadlines are met.
- You will be frequently lifting and carrying heavy items, walking and standing on concrete for long periods, and working in a fast-paced, high-demand environment.
- This role requires attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to stay focused and competent under pressure.
You’ll Bring
- Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience operating and maintaining digital printing equipment, including large-format and high-volume printers.
- Proficiency in machine operation, troubleshooting, and technical issue resolution, including mechanical and software-related problems.
- Some understanding of color management, including calibration tools and ensuring color accuracy and consistency throughout production.
- Some understanding of pre-press and finishing processes, including RIP file preparation, print-ready file verification, and post-press finishing.
- High attention to detail to ensure print quality, proper alignment, and adherence to job specifications.
- Ability to identify potential production issues (substrate concerns, color inconsistencies) and take corrective action proactively.
- Ability to follow production schedules and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with designers, project managers, and team members.
- Adaptability and willingness to learn new technologies, techniques, and workflows, with flexibility to handle shifting priorities and last-minute requests.
