Special Education Student Support Teacher - John Cline Elementary
Position Overview
We are seeking a student-centered educator to serve as a Special Education Student Support Teacher within our TK-2 building. This position provides individualized support and instruction to help students successfully access learning opportunities within inclusive and specialized educational settings based on student need. The ideal candidate is collaborative, relationship-driven, flexible, and committed to supporting the whole child through protective, skill-based behavioral instruction and intervention.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialized instructional and behavioral support for students receiving special education services
- Support students within general education classrooms, small groups, or individualized settings as determined by IEPs and student needs
- Develop positive relationships that support student growth, regulation, and engagement in learning
- Implement behavior intervention plans, accommodations, and individualized supports
- Teach and reinforce self-regulation, social-emotional, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Collaborate closely with classroom teachers, special education staff, families, counselors, and administration
- Monitor student progress and maintain documentation aligned with IEP goals and behavioral supports
- Use proactive, trauma-informed, and de-escalation strategies to support students during times of dysregulation
- Contribute to inclusive practices that help students access instruction alongside peers whenever appropriate
Qualifications
- Valid Iowa teaching license with special education endorsement required or a willingness to obtain
- Strong collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills
Preferred Skills
- Experience supporting students with behavioral and social-emotional needs preferred
- Knowledge of MTSS and trauma-informed practices, and behavior intervention strategies preferred
- Organized, flexible, and solution-oriented
The salary will be based on the length and relevance of the candidate's work history and the skills developed through their professional experiences.
