Job Title: Metal Finisher/Grinder
Summary: Finishing of metal products in production, utilizing grinders, sanders, and other power tools. Must have great attention to detail and be able to consistently finish parts.
Responsibilities and duties include:
- Must approach all tasks and daily activities with a positive attitude
- Able to grind or finish parts using various styles and machines upon direction from grinding lead or fabrication supervisor.
- Ability to grind on various materials with guidance.
- Follow required procedures and use appropriate tooling to setup up each machine for the job as needed.
- Will be using a variety of machines within the grinding/finishing department to include (but not limited to): polishers, sanding instruments, polishing wheels, buffing wheels, and straight lining machines
- Identify opportunities for improving grinding and finishing and the overall fabrication area
- Continuously look for and seek out any continuous improvements that may be made in the department
- Just because we have always done something one way, that does not mean that it is the only or the “best” way. New emerging technology is being created very quickly, look at and identify what areas that new methods, machines or procedures could be utilized.
- Accountability for following DSI’s written quality procedures.
- Provide accurate inventory counts at all times and keep parts in identifiable and appropriate areas
- Recognize problem processes and/or unsafe set-ups and recommend alternatives.
- Able to operate machines on various metals with supervision.
- Must perform quality checks on pieces per DSI’s quality departments requirements
- Must read and understand layouts, job packets and blue prints for parts being fabricated, even if it is a repeat job. This includes understanding of dimensions and tolerances of finished parts.
- Finish all parts according to job packets and specifications.
- Verify any discrepancies and issues as they arise and report to fabrication supervisor or lead
- Mark prints for any changes that would be required for production or repeat jobs so future jobs can be replicated with easily
- Work in other departments as a shop helper as needed.
- Log into epicor time system to accurately clock in and out of jobs
- Other duties as assigned.
Education or Certifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
Skills/Abilities/Competencies:
- Analyze plans, blue prints or drawings to determine work requirements, grinding and finishing operations. .
- Optimize grinding/finishing processes to ensure daily goals and production is met
- Take on additional tasks given by lead or fabrication supervisor as needed.
- Ability to perform a sequence of operations with supervision and maintain the performance levels set for quality and quantity.
- Understanding of safety rules and regulations to prevent unsafe set-ups, operations, or acts which might cause injury to self, others, environment or equipment.
- Proactively engage in a working relationship with other members of the team
- Ability to work through daily operational activities
- Ability to plan effectively and execute the plans
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Able to lift 25 pounds or more daily and over 25 pounds occasionally
- Ability to push or pull over 25 pounds daily or over 25 pounds occasionally
- Able to perform finishing processes on various metals
- Metal include: stainless steel, aluminum, cold steel etc.
- Strong knowledge of inspection procedures
- Each grinder/finisher is responsible for checking all parts for quality
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $23.00 - $26.00 per hour
