What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fabrication & Finishing Technician (Part-Time, Growth Potential) position at Decibel?
At Decibel, we design and build custom 3D-printed furniture, architectural elements, and interior design pieces — all made sustainably with cutting-edge robotic technology. We’re a small, design-focused team that values craftsmanship, autonomy, and ideas that don’t get lost in the corporate shuffle.
About the Role
We’re looking for a Fabrication & Finishing Technician to help transform our large-format 3D-printed parts into installation-ready pieces. If you enjoy hands-on work, take pride in detail and craftsmanship, and want to be part of a creative, forward-thinking shop, this could be a great fit.
This role starts part-time (around 20 hours/week), with flexibility built in. As our workload grows, it can easily turn into a full-time position (40 hours/week) with the opportunity to step into a lead role on our finishing team.
What You’ll Do
- Inspect and prep 3D-printed parts for finishing and assembly
- Sand, smooth, and refine surfaces for a professional look
- Drill, fit, and align components as needed
- Apply surface finishes and protective coatings
- Pack and prepare parts for shipping, including crate building
- Occasionally assist with on-site installations (local, U.S., and international)
Tools & Skills You’ll Need
- Comfortable with common shop tools: sanders, drills, hand tools, painting/finishing equipment
- Prior experience in woodworking, fabrication, or a related trade (we’ll train you on our processes, but can’t train from scratch)
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for long periods, and use a respirator when required
- Forklift experience is a plus (certification not required)
- Strong attention to detail, craftsmanship, and problem-solving
Perks of the Job
- Work with cutting-edge machines (large-format robotic 3D printers!)
- Potential travel for installations in exciting locations
- Flexible schedule — as long as the work gets done right and on time
- Be part of a small, creative, and collaborative team where your work and ideas matter
Pay & Growth
- Starting at $20/hour
- Pay raises based on performance
- Clear path to full-time hours and opportunity to grow into a lead role
Job Types: Part-time, Contract, Temporary
Pay: $20.00 - $28.00 per hour
Work Location: In person
Salary : $20 - $28
