Joe Wheeler EMC, located in beautiful and rapidly growing North Alabama, is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Electrical Project Engineer.
Position Summary: We are looking for an Electrical Project Engineer that supports the planning, design, and execution of high-voltage electrical and substations projects. This position will play a critical role in delivering safe, efficient, and high-quality electrical system installations and substation installations ranging from 15 kV to 161 kV. This position requires technical knowledge of transmission and distribution systems, substation design standards, and project delivery within the utility sector or a strong desire to learn. This role involves overseeing technical designs, coordinating with utility clients, supporting procurement and construction, and ensuring full compliance with utility regulations and national standards as well as determining and implementing appropriate maintenance routines. This position will play a key role in ensuring that all electrical projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest safety and quality standards and that JWEMC continues to provide highly reliable service to our customers.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent is required. Up to five years of experience in an Electric Utility System work is highly preferred. Experience with utility standards and working with power transmission/distribution facilities is preferred. Experience in substation design, construction, operation, and maintenance is preferred. Strong understanding of protection systems, SCADA, control logic, and grounding practices are preferred. Working knowledge of project management tools is required. Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills are required. Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) is strongly preferred.
