The Role
We are seeking an experienced Prior Authorization / Health Insurance Verification Specialist to join our small, supportive outpatient team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working independently, takes pride in accuracy, and values building relationships with patients and providers in a lower-stress, non-hospital setting.
You will play a key role in ensuring patients are fully prepared for their MRI appointments by verifying insurance coverage, obtaining required authorizations, and clearly communicating patient responsibility.
Key Responsibilities
- Review MRI orders received from referring physicians
- Verify insurance eligibility, benefits, and patient responsibility
- Obtain prior authorizations and pre-certifications for imaging services
- Gather and submit required demographic and clinical information
- Coordinate and request peer-to-peer reviews when necessary
- Serve as a liaison between patients, insurance companies, and referring offices
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient notes in the system
- Ensure authorization details align correctly with coding and billing requirements
- Build positive, professional relationships with referral coordinators and physician offices
- Evening Shift hours 10am-7pm with rotating Saturdays.
What We’re Looking For
- 3 years of prior authorization or insurance verification experience (required)
- Strong understanding of insurance plans, benefits, and authorization processes
- Knowledge of medical coding related to imaging services
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage a steady workload with attention to detail
- Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks
- Dependable attendance and a positive, team-oriented attitude
- Comfortable working independently in a small office setting
- Must be available to work 10am to 7pm with rotating Saturday shifts
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required
