What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Security Manager position at Decatur City?
The Assistant Security Manager will assist the Security Manager with maintaining district security systems and procedures to ensure a safe and orderly learning environment for students and staff, so that disruptions to the educational process are minimized and administration can focus on academic endeavors.
Assists the Security Manager with all aspects of work with facilities and operational safety district wide; including security records, logs and reports.
- Assists the Security Manager with implementation of the security system and other safety features within the school system, including various safety drills.
Assists the Security Manager in working closely with building principals in the coordination of school level security, including athletic events.
Assists the Security Manager with emergency action planning and crisis team activation.
- Assists the Security Manager with school level building and ground inspection to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and other illegal activities.
Assists the Security Manager with the implementation of security checks of school grounds and other facilities to detect unauthorized persons, check vehicles for parking authorizations; check interior and exterior lighting and emergency access routes.
Makes written reports as required, including documentation of reports/mapping within the state/district approved system database.
Performs periodic checks of all doors in school buildings and other district facilities to ensure they are secure.
Notifies the Security Manager and other appropriate authority as directed by the Security Manager of any situation requiring immediate or prompt attention.
Ability to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends.
- Ability to establish positive relationships with students, parents, staff, administrators and law enforcement and other outside agencies.
Has or will be willing/able to obtain a Drone Operator License.
Assists with oversight, training, management, and payroll documentation of operations and facility safety staff.
Maintains and updates individual building mapping and EOP’s (and other required data) in the software platform that is utilized by the system and the state.
Respond to alarm, emergency, crisis, and unknown situations.
Knowledge of laws, codes, and regulations related to schools and facilities.
- Schedules emergency responders for events.
Other duties as assigned or requested by the Superintendent, Deputy Superintendent, Security Manager.
12 Month Contract
- High School Diploma.
- Crisis response supervisory experience preferred.
- Reside locally with the ability to respond and/or coordinate a response as situations arise after hours or on weekends.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret teacher textbooks, general periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports, correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of students, parents, and the general public.
Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on oral and written communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups, as well as government agencies.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Demonstrates experience with and knowledge of safety, security, emergency management, and crisis management policies and procedures.
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, law enforcement, parents and community/government agencies.
Ability to carry out job responsibilities and handle sensitive information in a confidential manner.
Proficient in handling problems, concerns and emotional distress with sensitivity and tact.

- Maintains valid driver’s license and a good driving record.

Outside the state of Alabama, we must have a letter (on school district letterhead) or public school district form showing beginning and ending dates stating your years of service and position held while employed
Credit is awarded for public school experience only, private, parochial, or similar experience will not be accepted
Experience must be full time at least 50%-100% of the academic year
Administrative credit will be awarded only for experience in the same position, i.e., principal for principal position as stated in the salary schedule
Transfer Sick Leave: If you have sick leave from another state school system or from another state of Alabama agency, you must have a Sick Leave Transfer form sent from your previous employer to our Human Resources department
