What are the responsibilities and job description for the Learning Center Assistant position at Deborah's Place?
Position Summary
The position is responsible for administering Learning Center activities including development and execution of consistent participant-centered programming and curriculum; teaching and providing educational resources and opportunities; building referral networks; educational intakes; responding to and resolving participant conflicts and grievances; and supervising Learning Center staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Staff Learning Center
- Develop and implement monthly theme and activity calendar for the women who use the Learning Center in conjunction with the other team members.
- Assist the participants with setting and meeting their goals that they make take back control of their lives.
- Tutor individuals; refer to outside agencies for education and training and to the in-house employment team.
- Organize and facilitate individual sessions, group workshops, CEP electives, field trips and guest speakers.
- Assist with lesson plans and classes with Humanities curriculum.
- Motivate learning center participants to keep the space clean and orderly.
Administrative Support
- Maintain learning center inventory of books, art/craft supplies, office supplies, and replenish supplies as needed.
- Complete daily tracking forms, volunteer sign in sheets, token sign out sheets, and turn into the Program Information Manager.
- Complete purchase orders and check requests as needed.
Other
- Maintain required professional knowledge and job skills. Attend and participate in required educational programs and staff meetings.
- Represent Deborah's Place mission and values to participants, tenants, visitors, volunteers and others.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education: High School diploma or equivalent; Bachelor's preferred
Licensure and/or Certification: First Aid/CPR preferred.
Job Experience: 1 year of social service setting and experience working with people who are homeless preferred
Special Knowledge & Skills: Knowledge of issues surrounding homelessness, mental illness and chemical dependency and MISA issues; proficiency in Microsoft Office software, effective oral and written communication skills, good organizational skills, conflict management and crisis intervention skills; demonstrate clear and professional boundaries; act in a professional manner.
