Job Description
Position Title: Assistant Irrigation Manager / Field Foreman Location: Deaver Irrigation District, Deaver, Wyoming Reports To: Irrigation District Manager
Employment Type: Full-Time, Year-Round
The Assistant Irrigation Manager / Field Foreman supports the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and supervision of irrigation systems within the Frannie Division of the Shoshone Project. This role ensures safe, efficient, and equitable water distribution, while supervising field crews and maintaining canals, ditches, and structures.
Key Responsibilities Including but not limited to;
- Assist in planning, scheduling, and coordinating irrigation water deliveries.
- Operate, monitor, and adjust diversion gates, canals, and structures.
- Supervise and train seasonal employees and maintenance crews.
- Inspect and maintain canals, pipelines, pumps, and irrigation structures.
- Maintain records of water deliveries, field activities, and maintenance work.
- Report needed repairs and coordination with mechanics, engineers, or contractors.
- Operate heavy equipment, vehicles, and irrigation tools as needed.
- Communicate effectively with landowners, project members, and the public.
- Ensure compliance with Bureau of Reclamation regulations and safety standards.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework in agriculture, irrigation, or engineering preferred.
- 3 years of experience in irrigation operations, agriculture water management, or related field.
- Supervisory or crew leadership experience strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of irrigation methods, water distribution systems, and agricultural practices.
- Ability to read and interpret maps, engineering drawings, and water schedules.
- Valid Wyoming driver’s license required; CDL and/or pesticide applicator license preferred.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including weekends or evenings during irrigation season.
Working Conditions
Work is primarily outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, and rain. Physical demands include lifting up to 50 lbs, walking uneven terrain, and working near water. Extended hours, including weekends, may be required during irrigation season. After hours on-call availability required.
