Position Overview

Safely and reliably transport and assist students and other school district passengers to and from school, educational or sporting events, community-based programs and other special activities.

Specific Responsibilities

• Safely care for and protect student passengers.
• Conduct emergency evacuation drills as required.
• Instruct passenger riders regarding safety.
• Establish favorable working relationships with parents, school staff and Dean staff.
• Attend training sessions, annual in-service and workshops conducted by Dean Transportation Inc. and/or other approved agencies
• (Attendant-specific) Secure adaptive equipment as required for each passenger according to company policies and procedures
• (Attendant-specific) Lift, store, and disassemble/assemble wheelchairs (up to 40 lbs.) and other ambulatory devices as needed.
  
  
  

Requirements

SPECIFIC ABILITIES

• Identify with geographic service area of school district and routes you travel.
• Demonstrate knowledge of rules and regulations promulgated by local, state, and federal agencies.
• Demonstrate knowledge of state laws and local ordinances.
• Deal with exuberant behavior characteristics of youthful riders.
• Administer disciplinary procedures in keeping with company and school district policies.
• Be alert and exercise good judgment concerning emergencies and day-to-day operations.
• Conduct a bus evacuation drill.
• Keep accurate records and reports as required, submit in a legible condition, turn in at the specified time.
• Conduct yourself as a professional Dean Transportation staff member at all times.
• Secure all equipment that is required for each passenger as prescribed in company policy.
• Be able to lift, store, and disassemble/assemble wheelchairs of a maximum weight of 40 pounds and/or other ambulatory devices required by the passenger.
  
  
  

BODY MECHANICS OF SCHOOL BUS ATTENDANT

School Bus Attendants are required through their employment to perform various tasks. These physical tasks require varying degrees of lifting, pulling, bending and carrying of heavy objects.

Some examples of these are:

• Opening and closing bus entrance and emergency doors.
• Bending, pushing, and pulling to load and unload passengers, exerting up to 40 lbs. of push/pull pressure.
• (Attendant-specific) Loading/unloading a wheelchair (with or without a passenger) using a lift platform, up to 40 lbs. push/pull pressure.
• Assisting passengers entering or exiting the bus.
• Carrying and lifting personal articles and adaptive equipment of varying weights and sizes.
• Bending and stretching to clean and secure bus equipment.
• Bending, stretching, pulling, and dragging persons or equipment through emergency exits as required.
