The Specimen Processing Technician I (SPT I) provides essential support within the Specimen Processing Department. This role requires strong data entry skills, attention to detail, and the ability to perform multiple laboratory support functions with accuracy and timeliness. The SPT I ensures quality specimen processing, contributing directly to customer satisfaction and laboratory efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform general specimen processing tasks, including A-station, presort, centrifugation, aliquoting, imaging/microfilming, and specimen transport.
• Accurately deliver processed specimens to appropriate laboratory sections.
• Enter and verify data with a minimum speed of 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour.
• Apply knowledge of specimen types and test orders to ensure proper handling.
• Maintain compliance with evolving test-order regulations and laboratory standards.
• Adhere to safety and biohazard protocols while maintaining a clean and organized work area.
• Demonstrate flexibility by adapting to departmental changes, staffing needs, and customer demands.
• Support departmental goals for productivity, quality standards, and completion timelines.
• Communicate effectively with staff at all levels to ensure smooth workflow.

Work Environment & Schedule:

• Production-driven laboratory environment with emphasis on accuracy and efficiency.
• Majority of work performed on nightshift; availability for weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime may be required.
• Ability to sit or stand for extended periods in a biohazard setting.

Job Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent. Required
• No experience required but previous laboratory experience preferred.
• Medical background preferred.
• Previous hospital laboratory experience preferred.

Job Details:

• 8 hour shifts.
• Must be flexible.
• Starting at $16.20/hr (based on experience) benefits
