What are the responsibilities and job description for the Education Assistant position at Deadwood History?
We are looking for a passionate and dedicated Education Assistant to join our team at Deadwood History in Deadwood SD!
As an Education Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting our education programs and initiatives, helping to inspire students of all ages to explore the rich history of Deadwood through engaging and interactive experiences. You will work closely with our Education Director to develop and implement educational activities, tours, and workshops that bring history to life for our visitors.
We are seeking a candidate who is enthusiastic about education and history, with a strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills. The ideal candidate will be a team player who is able to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Previous experience in education or a related field is preferred, but we are willing to train the right candidate who is eager to learn and grow with our organization.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the Education Director in developing and implementing engaging educational activities and curriculum for summer youth programs and MakerSpace.
- Assist with giving guided tours to school groups.
- Supervise small to medium-sized groups of students in grades K-7.
- Research programming to enhance educational content and stay updated on relevant topics.
- Communicate effectively with families and students.

- Passionate about fostering a positive learning environment for children.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Strong organizational abilities, attention to detail, and deadlines.
- Excellent speaking skills and enjoy being outdoors.
- Willingness to work flexible hours.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented setting.
Physical demands:
You must be capable of climbing several flights of stairs daily. Capable of lifting 20 pounds. Expecting to be able to sit, stand, and walk for 8 hours daily. Must be able to see, hear, and speak effectively (with or without reasonable accommodation).
