Information Specialist – History and Information Center/Welcome Center

- Information Specialist will act as the area information contact person, providing appropriate visitor assistance and information as required.
This position may be:
- A permanent part-time position
- A part-time seasonal position not to exceed 30 hours per week from approximately May to October of a calendar year.
- Position opens mid-August.
Hours are:
- 9 am-5 pm
- Weekends and holidays are considered part of the normal work shift
- Information Centers are closed Thanksgiving and Christmas Day
In this position, an employee is required to:
- Provide directions and/or information in a friendly and efficient manner
- Promote the sale of merchandise and trolley fares
- Process and record funds from merchandise sales and/or returns
- Stock printed information and merchandise as designated by the supervisor
- Clerical or data entry tasks
- Assist in the promotion and execution of Chamber of Commerce-sponsored special events when assigned
- Other duties as assigned
Skills needed:
- Excellent public relations skills
- Specific knowledge of the Deadwood area and its history
- Ability to handle and count money
- Ability to run office machines and software (point of sale, computer, printer, etc.)
- Position requires sitting at a computer or workstation for lengthy periods of time.
- Able to lift up to 35 pounds.
Hiring priority will be given to prior tourism industry experience and existing knowledge of Deadwood.
Preference given to those with a high school diploma or equivalent. Will consider high school student age 16 or older.
Pay: From $15.00 per hour
