SUMMARY
The Controls Engineering Lead is responsible for the daily supervision and management of their Controls Engineers and for the coordination of day-to-day activities. The Controls Engineering Lead is also responsible for administering, directing, and coordinating all aspects of controls engineering from inception to completion. The Controls Engineering Lead also provides expert judgment and analysis for the design, development and implementation of technical products and system, resolving highly complex technical issues, and conducting advanced research.
This position is considered a working manager position that is responsible for coaching and guiding team members, providing technical project deliverables as well as supporting the line manager. The Controls Engineering Lead reports directly the Electrical Engineering & Controls Manager.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Designs products and systems, which can be complex in nature necessitating the expert application of engineering knowledge.
- Ability to translate a system process into an electrical and controls system able to meet the process and functional requirements according to either a standard design or specification-driven project.
- Select and review of process instruments, valves, and automation equipment required to meet project requirements.
- Responsible for the preparation, review and approval of drawings, models, sketches, equipment lists, Bills of Material, standard operating practices, and verbal instructions.
- Produce Engineering documentation such as cause and effect diagrams, alarm list, i/o lists, modbus/scada interface lists, and detailed HMI description and operation documents.
- Ability to install, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain mechanical systems and electrical equipment.
- Develops and uses engineering standards (electrical, mechanical, etc.), procedures and forms for engineering design and production fabrications. Writes and administers work instructions.
- Supplies engineering advice and counsel to Project Managers, Application Engineers, Electrical Engineers and Customer Service personnel as required.
- Represents the company for outside customer discussions and technical reviews.
- Originates and applies new engineering methods and procedures to lower cost and improve quality.
- May provide technical support for proposals and job estimates.
- May provide technical support for new product development.
- Understands and adheres to all company health and safety procedures as they relate to essential job functions.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the engineering field.
- Experience with, Allen Bradley, Siemens, Schneider PLC and HMI software.
- Minimum of 5 years in control system application program and hardware design.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office components.
- Knowledge of algorithm design and programming logic.
- Experienced in the design of control systems and programing PLC and HMI systems.
- Familiar with analog/digital instruments and valves, control loops, low voltage powered motors and equipment.
- Ability to work in a dynamic work environment subject to changing priorities.
- Ability to provide local and remote support to field technicians and or customers.
- Effective communication skills and collegial attitude.
- Problem solving and analytical skills a must.
- Knowledge and use of different programming codes such as ladder logic, function block, and structured text.
- Knowledge and use of different interface communication protocols such as Ethernet/IP, Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP/IP, RS232, and RS485.
- Hands on troubleshooting.
- Able to travel 10-20% of time to jobsites or other De Nora facilities as required.
Preferred Experience:
- Water treatment industry experience
- Knowledge of UV, Ozone, Filtration, and Electro chlorination Systems
- Field experience
- SCADA integration experience
- AutoCad experience a plus
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Instrumentation Design and or 7-15 years of experience in the field or in a related area or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
EIT a plus, PLC/HMI manufacture provided training certificates.
