Job Summary:
The Heavy Haul Trucking & Rigging Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing daily operations involving specialized over the road transportation, heavy haul logistics, and rigging services. This role ensures safe, efficient, and compliant execution of all projects, while managing personnel, equipment, scheduling, and customer relationships.
Key Responsibilities:
Operations Management
- Oversee all heavy haul and rigging operations from planning through execution
- Coordinate transportation of oversized/overweight loads, including route surveys and feasibility
- Manage crane, rigging, and specialized transport projects
- Ensure proper allocation of equipment and manpower
- Communicate with operations and oversize coordinator daily
Logistics & Planning
- Send job's to permit team for oversize/overweight loads
- Monitor project timelines and adjust schedules as needed
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce all DOT, OSHA, and local safety regulations
- Conduct safety meetings, audits, and incident investigations
- Ensure proper use and inspection of rigging gear and transportation equipment
- Maintain compliance with all licensing and permitting requirements
Team Leadership
- Supervise drivers, riggers, crane operators, and dispatch staff
- Provide training, performance management, and discipline when necessary
- Foster a strong safety-first culture
Customer & Project Management
- Serve as primary point of contact for clients
- Prepare project estimates, proposals, and job costing
- Ensure customer satisfaction and timely project completion
- Resolve operational issues and client concerns
Equipment & Asset Management
- Oversee maintenance and utilization of trucks, trailers, cranes, and rigging equipment
- Coordinate repairs and preventative maintenance
- Track equipment availability and usage
Financial Oversight
- Manage budgets, job costing, and profitability
- Review invoices, expenses, and project margins
- Identify cost-saving opportunities
Qualifications:
- 5–10 years of experience in heavy haul transportation, rigging, or specialized logistics
- Strong knowledge of oversize/overweight permitting and routing
- Experience with cranes, rigging practices, and load securement
- Familiarity with DOT and OSHA regulations
- Proven leadership and team management experience
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- CDL (Commercial Driver’s License)
- NCCCO certification or rigging certifications
- Experience with multi-axle, specialized trailers (RGN, double drop, perimeters, etc.)
- Knowledge of industry software (TMS, dispatch, or permitting systems)
Work Environment:
- Combination of office and field work
- Frequent site visits and travel required
- Ability to work extended hours, including nights and weekends when needed
