De La Salle North Catholic High School provides a faith-based, college-preparatory high school education to underserved students from the Portland area. We are the most diverse private high school in Oregon, and over 95% of our graduates are accepted into college. POSITION SUMMARY

As a member of the Strategic Leadership Team, the Vice President of Finance & Operations reports to the President and oversees the school’s financial and operational functions, ensuring financial health, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance while advancing the mission and long-term sustainability of De La Salle North Catholic.

 

The Vice President leads financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, accounting, audits, and nonprofit compliance, and manages key operational areas including facilities, IT, and food services. This role also partners with the President and Strategic Leadership Team on long-term financial planning to align resources with institutional priorities.

 

This position requires both strategic leadership and a hands-on approach. The Vice President operates at a high strategic level while directly engaging in day-to-day financial systems, including detailed work in QuickBooks to maintain accuracy, transparency, and strong controls.

 

The Vice President supervises the Business Office Associate, IT Director, Custodial Staff, and Kitchen Staff, and collaborates closely with the President’s Assistant/HR Coordinator on human resources. This role serves as a trusted advisor to the President on financial strategy, operational planning, and long-term sustainability.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

Financial Administration

  • Ensure the integrity of all accounting operations, including recording, monitoring, reconciling, closing, and reporting cycles in accordance with GAAP.

  • Maintain and manage relationships with the school’s banking partners and financial institutions.

  • Oversee semi-monthly payroll for all employees, including tax filings, retirement contributions (403b), and benefit allocations.

  • Support the administration of financial assistance programs for families, including financial aid awards and the Federal Free and Reduced Lunch Program, ensuring timely communication regarding billing and collections.

  • Lead and coordinate the annual audit process, working with external auditors and the Board Finance Committee to ensure timely preparation, review, and resolution of audit findings.

  • Serve as staff liaison to the Board Finance Committee, preparing financial reports, forecasts, and supporting materials to facilitate effective governance and informed decision-making.

  • Supervise the Business Office Associate in tuition collection, accounts payable and receivable, payroll processing, and general business office operations.

  • Prepare and present monthly financial statements (profit and loss, balance sheet, and cash flow) to the President, Finance Committee, and Board of Trustees.

  • Lead the annual budgeting process, providing financial guidance to department leaders, developing budget templates, reviewing proposals, and producing final budget materials.

  • Partner with the President and Strategic Leadership Team to support long-term financial planning and ensure alignment between institutional priorities and available financial resources.

  • Partner with the Development Department to support donor stewardship by reconciling pledge balances, ensuring compliance with donor and grant restrictions, and providing financial information for grant proposals and reporting.

 

Facilities & Operations

  • Oversee operational contracts, leases, supplies, and service agreements to ensure appropriate financial oversight and timely processing of invoices.

  • Monitor safeguards for fixed assets and support school leaders in ensuring assets are utilized effectively and in alignment with institutional plans.

  • Provide oversight of school food services operations and compliance with the Federal Free and Reduced Lunch Program.

  • Supervise facilities-related staff and ensure effective coordination of building operations, maintenance, and custodial services.

 

Human Resources

  • Collaborate with the President in reviewing employee benefit and retirement plans to ensure competitiveness and financial sustainability.

  • Lead the negotiation and administration of employee benefit programs and provide ongoing communication and education to employees regarding benefits.

  • Maintain personnel files and oversee the annual review and updating of the employee handbook and HR policies.

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local employment regulations, advising leadership on best practices in human resources and employment law.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business related field

  • MBA or CPA preferred

  • Minimum of seven years of experience in financial management and operations, including budget development and financial reporting, ideally within a nonprofit organization

  • Three to five years of supervisory experience

  • Proficiency with QuickBooks, Google Workspace, and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel

  • Knowledge of nonprofit accounting standards and financial regulations

  • Proven success providing strategic leadership and operational oversight of financial systems and processes

  • Operates effectively at both strategic and operational levels, balancing CFO-level judgment with hands-on management of accounting systems, reporting, and daily financial operations

  • Strong working knowledge of accounting systems, including QuickBooks, with the ability to manage transactions, reporting, and controls directly

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to present complex financial information clearly to diverse audiences

  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills; able to organize, motivate, and evaluate staff
