Overview

The Clinical RN Manager provides comprehensive clinical leadership and oversight for the Occupational Medicine clinic, employer-based onsite clinics, and associated ambulatory and primary care services offered within scope. This role is responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant clinical operations across multiple locations, including management of clinical staff, coordination of workflows, regulatory compliance, quality assurance, and continuity of care.

The Clinical RN Manager serves as the primary clinical resource and authority for nursing and clinical support staff, supporting occupational injury care, pre-employment and regulatory physicals, drug and alcohol testing programs, medical surveillance, preventive health services, and limited primary care for employees and dependents. The position functions as a working clinical leader and maintains hands-on involvement in patient care when needed to support staffing gaps, emergent operational needs, or increased patient volume.

Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership & Oversight

  • Provide day-to-day clinical leadership for the Occupational Medicine clinic and employer-based onsite clinics, ensuring safe, efficient, and patient-centered care delivery across all locations.
  • Maintain clinical authority and oversight for occupational health services, limited primary care services within scope, and employer-based clinic programs.
  • Ensure consistent application of evidence-based clinical practice standards, documentation requirements, and care protocols across all care settings
  • Staffing, Supervision & Workforce Management

  • Directly supervise and support clinical staff, including RNs, LPNs, Medical Assistants, drug screening personnel, and onsite clinic teams.
  • Develop and manage staffing schedules that align with patient volume, employer program requirements, and regulatory service demands.
  • Monitor staff attendance, productivity, and performance; conduct performance evaluations, coaching, and corrective action as needed.
  • Support onboarding, training, competency validation, and professional development of clinical staff.
  • Clinical Coverage & Continuity of Operations

  • Function as a working clinical leader by providing direct patient care coverage during staff absences, vacancies, or periods of increased patient volume.
  • Coordinate clinical coverage plans to ensure uninterrupted clinic operations across Occupational Medicine and onsite locations.
  • Respond to urgent operational or staffing needs to maintain continuity of clinical services.
  • Clinical Processes, Workflow & Standardization

  • Develop, maintain, and standardize clinical workflows, policies, procedures, and protocols across all clinic and onsite locations.
  • Optimize patient flow and clinic efficiency for injury visits, regulatory exams, occupational testing, and primary care services as offered.
  • Support integration of occupational health and primary care workflows while maintaining appropriate scope-of-practice boundaries.
  • Quality, Safety & Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable occupational health, workplace safety, and ambulatory care regulations, including OSHA and DOT drug and alcohol testing requirements.
  • Monitor clinical documentation, testing procedures, and regulatory recordkeeping for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
  • Identify clinical risks, workflow issues, or safety concerns and implement corrective actions to support quality outcomes and patient safety.
  • Support ongoing quality improvement initiatives and regulatory readiness reviews.
  • Employer & Provider Collaboration

  • Serve as a clinical liaison with employer partners to ensure occupational health and onsite clinic services meet contracted program requirements.
  • Coordinate clinical resources to support employer testing programs, injury management, and onsite clinic operations.
  • Collaborate closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, and administrative leadership to support clinic performance, care coordination, and program development.
  • Operational & Administrative Support

  • Maintain oversight of clinical supplies, equipment, and exam room readiness.
  • Support budget awareness related to clinical staffing, supply utilization, and operational efficiency.
  • Participate in operational planning, service development, and initiatives supporting clinic growth and sustainability.
  • Utilize organizational systems including EHR, scheduling, learning management, and timekeeping systems in accordance with policy.
  • DCH Standards:

    • Performs essential job functions in a manner that ensures the safety of patients, visitors and employees.
    • Identifies and reduces unsafe practices that may result in harm to patients, visitors and employees.
    • Recognizes and takes appropriate action to reduce risks and hazards to promote safety for patients, visitors and employees.
    • Requires use of electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software and intranet.
    • Must adhere to all DCH Health System policies and procedures.
    • All other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Registered Nurse with current Alabama or Multistate License.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or must be actively working on Bachelor’s degree with completion date within 4 years of hire with evidence of active matriculation.
    • Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a registered nurse, specialty experience preferred in applied area.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Must be able to read, write legibly, speak and comprehend English.

    Preferred Education & Experience:

    • Experience in Occupational Medicine, Urgent Care or Primary Care Preferred.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    • Lifting up to 10 lbs. maximum and occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as files, patient charts, computer printouts, etc.
    • Must have good manual dexterity.
    • Hearing and vision must be normal or corrected to within normal range.
    • Must be able to stoop, kneel, and/or crouch on occasion.
    • Must be able to perform the duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
    • Physical presence onsite is essential.
